Mireia Benito on three-year deal to Movistar Team
Spanish road race- and time trial champion Mireia Benito Pellicer will race for Movistar Team as of the next season. The 29-years old rider has signed a contract for three years with the Women’s World Tour team of her home country. She closes a chapter with the AG Insurance – Soudal Team, with who she in the past four years has made big steps in her career. Benito Pellicer for example won the national time trial championships four years in a row and this year started in all three Grand Tours.
“I joined AG Insurance – Soudal four years ago at a moment that I really wanted to race for a foreign team, to not only develop myself as a rider, but also as a human being”, Benito Pellicer says. “Now, in my fourth season, I can say that this has been the exact right choice. I have learned so much, while I also got to know a lot of people and had a lot of support. That means that I am honestly leaving this team with a heavy heart and I will always be thankful to everyone who has supported me in the past years.”
For the Catalan cyclist, an exciting new story awaits now; “While I am sad to leave a team, I am on the other hand also super excited to join Movistar Team. When I started cycling, they were as a Spanish team already the team to look up to. In the meantime the team has grown so much though, that this has become an even bigger deal. I look very much forward to contributing to further success of the team, both for my future teammates as well as for myself, as I am also very eager to keep developing and exploring my limits.”
