Taneal Otto from South Africa and Minke Bakker from the Netherlands have joined AK Sportpromotions, letting the company taking care of their management. Both cyclists will race for the Duolar-Chevelmeire Cycling Team in 2023. For Otto it will be the first UCI cycling team that she joins in her career, while Bakker joined the team already in 2022 and has renewed her contract. AK Sportpromotions are happy to welcome both riders and congratulate them with their contract for the upcoming cycling season.
Bakker (photo top) has proven herself to be a rider with a good sprint, then can survive the hills in races. The 25-years-old rider this year won the Belgium kermesse race in Stalhille, got third in three other races and also got top-10 results in three UCI-races. For Otto (photo middle), racing in the north of Europe will be a new experience. This year she however raced in Spain, where the 26-years-old former triathlete impressed with a seventh place in La reVolta, beating several UCI-riders in a sprint for the 7th place. She started the year well at the South African championships, with a 4th place in the individual time trial and 5th place in the road race.
Next step in careers
“I am happy to start working with both Taneal and Minke”, AK Sportpromotions owner Aschwin Kruders says. “Taneal and I met at Rocacorba Cycling in Girona and from the start I noticed how driven she is. That is going to help her a lot in the future. For a rider from a continent like Africa it isn’t easy to find a UCI-team, while it is so important for the next step in her career. I am happy it worked out now. Minke on the other hand already has the experience and has set a step up in the past half year. Signing a new contract gives her the stability she needs, to make even more steps, to fight for the podium spots in UCI-races.”

AK Sportpromotions vertegenwoordigt Bakker en Otto die in 2023 voor Duolar-Chevalmeire rijden
Taneal Otto uit Zuid-Afrika en Minke Bakker uit Nederland hebben zich aangesloten bij AK Sportpromotions en laten het bedrijf hun management verzorgen. Beide rensters rijden in 2023 voor het Duolar-Chevelmeire Cycling Team. Voor Otto wordt het de eerste UCI-wielerploeg waar ze in haar carrière bij rijdt, terwijl Bakker in 2022 al bij de ploeg kwam en haar contract heeft verlengd. AK Sportpromotions heet beide rensters van harte welkom en feliciteert hen met hun contract voor het komende wielerseizoen.
Bakker (foto top) heeft bewezen een renster te zijn met een goede sprint, die ook de heuvels in wedstrijden kan overleven. De 25-jarige renster won dit jaar de Belgische kermiskoers in Stalhille, werd derde in drie andere wedstrijden en behaalde ook top-10 resultaten in drie UCI-wedstrijden. Voor Otto (foto midden) wordt racen in het noorden van Europa een nieuwe ervaring. Dit jaar reed ze echter wel al in Spanje, waar de 26-jarige oud-triatlete indruk maakte met een zevende plaats in La reVolta, waarbij ze meerdere UCI-rensters versloeg in een sprint om de 7e plaats. Ze begon het jaar goed op de Zuid-Afrikaanse kampioenschappen, met een 4e plaats in de individuele tijdrit en een 5e plaats in de wegwedstrijd.
Volgende stap in carrières
“Ik ben blij om samen te werken met zowel Taneal als Minke”, zegt AK Sportpromotions eigenaar Aschwin Kruders. “Taneal en ik hebben elkaar leren kennen bij Rocacorba Cycling in Girona en vanaf het begin merkte ik hoe gedreven ze is. Daar gaat ze in de toekomst veel aan hebben. Voor een wielrenster uit een continent als Afrika is het niet makkelijk om een UCI-team te vinden, terwijl het zo belangrijk is voor de volgende stap in haar carrière. Ik ben blij dat het nu gelukt is. Minke daarentegen heeft al de ervaring en heeft het afgelopen half jaar een stap omhoog gezet. Het tekenen van een nieuw contract geeft haar de stabiliteit die ze nodig heeft, om nog meer stappen te maken, om te vechten voor de podiumplaatsen in UCI-races.”
