Five cyclists starting at world championships in Belgium

In Belgium the UCI world cycling championships start for the elite women this Monday. A total of three races are on their program, starting with the individual time trial. On Wednesday the Mixed Relay is for the second time on the program of the world championships and on Saturday it is time for the road race. With Christina and Kathrin Schweinberger (Austria), Jessica Allen (Australia), Ane Santesteban (Spain) and Annemiek van Vleuten (The Netherlands), five riders that we work with at AK Sportpromotions are competing.

Annemiek will start with number 1 in the individual time trial. The olympic champion on this discipline knows what it is to win the world title. In 2017 and 2018 she won the rainbow jersey on the time trial. A year ago she ended in second place, behind Anna van der Breggen. This time Annemiek is de last rider to start, at 16:02 CEST. On her website there is a preview, in Dutch. From the earlier mentioned riders, Annemiek is the only one to ride the individual time trial.

On Wednesday the world championships continue for the elite women. The Mixed Relay was already on the program in Yorkshire in 2019, but due to the pandamic it wasn’t organised in Imola last year. From each country three men will ride the course as a team, followed by three women from their country. The Schweinberger sisters, who recently got fifth at the European championships, are racing with Austria. Annemiek is in the team from the Netherlands.

Road race
The road race on Saturday will be an exciting one. The organisation made a classic course for the riders. The famous hills from races like the Tour of Flanders might not be in it, but it will still be a hard race. With a total of 158 kilometers, it will be a long race for the women. That in combination with a lot of short but steep hills, are the ingredients for a spectacle to look forward to. All the earlier mentioned riders will be on the start in the road race. We wish them good luck at the world championships!
