The talented Italian sprinter Laura Tomasi will be racing for the ambitious Spanish team Laboral Kutxa Fundación Euskadi for the next two seasons. With that team, the 24-year-old cyclist will be able to compete for good results herself more often, after she mainly worked for others in recent seasons. Tomasi comes over from Team UAE ADQ. In the few times she was allowed to go for her own chances in the past two years, she every time managed to compete with the best sprinters for the win.
Tomasi made an impression in June in the Baloise Ladies Tour. In Belgium she managed to finish fifth in two stages, one time she was seventh and one time ninth. By also riding a strong time trial, she finished twelfth in the general classification of the five-day stage race. It was the first time this year that Tomasi was allowed to sprint herself, where she was part of the lead-out train of teammates for the rest of the season. In 2022 she immediately took her only chances, with a second and fourth place in stages of the Simac Ladies Tour and a third place in a stage of the Tour of Scandinavia, both World Tour races.
“I’m really looking forward to the next two seasons with Laboral Kutxa,” Tomasi says. “In the past three years I have learned a lot at Team UAE ADQ and I am very grateful to the team for that. I notice that I am ready for a new step in my career. Laboral Kutxa has the ambition to become a Women’s World Tour team in the future and has grown strongly in recent seasons. With them I can go my own chance more often, but I will certainly also do my job for others, which I have always done with great pleasure. I am convinced that I can develop further as a cyclist with this team.”

Laura Tomasi stapt over naar ambitieus Laboral Kutxa
De talentvolle Italiaanse sprintster Laura Tomasi fietst de komende twee seizoenen voor het ambitieuze Spaanse team Laboral Kutxa Fundación Euskadi. Bij die ploeg zal de 24-jarige wielrenster vaker zelf kunnen strijden om goede resultaten, nadat ze de afgelopen seizoenen met name werkte voor anderen. Tomasi komt over van Team UAE ADQ. In de spaarzame keren dat ze in de afgelopen twee jaren voor haar eigen kans mocht gaan, wist ze telkens met de beste sprinters mee te strijden om de winst.
Tomasi maakte in juni nog indruk in de Baloise Ladies Tour. In België wist ze in twee etappes vijfde te worden, eenmaal zevende en één keer negende. Door ook een sterkte tijdrit te rijden, eindigde ze als twaalfde in het eindklassement van de vijfdaagse etappekoers. Het was de eerste keer dit jaar dat Tomasi zelf mocht sprinten, waar ze de rest van seizoen behoorde tot de lead-out trein van ploeggenotes. In 2022 pakte ze ook direct haar enige kansen, met een tweede en vierde plaats in etappes van de Simac Ladies Tour en een derde plaats in een etappe van de Tour of Scandinavia, beiden World Tour wedstrijden.
“Ik kijk erg uit naar de komende twee seizoenen met Laboral Kutxa”, zo zegt Tomasi zelf over haar overstap. “In de afgelopen drie jaren heb ik veel geleerd bij Team UAE ADQ en daar ben ik het team zeer dankbaar voor. Ik merk dat ik toe ben aan een nieuwe stap in mijn carrière. Laboral Kutxa heeft de ambitie om in de toekomst een Women’s World Tour team te worden en is de afgelopen seizoenen sterk gegroeid. Bij hen mag ik vaker mijn eigen kans gaan, maar zal ik ook zeker mijn werk voor anderen doen, wat ik altijd met veel plezier gedaan heb. Ik ben er van overtuigd dat ik me bij dit team verder kan ontwikkelen als wielrenster.”
