After an absence of about a year and a half, Finnish cyclist Lotta Henttala – Lepistö will return to the peloton in 2023. The former winner of Gent-Wevelgem, among others, will race for AG Insurance – NXTG, after she gave birth to a son in January of this year. Henttala recently joined AK Sportpromotions and we are happy to take care of her management. The 33-year-old rider has, among other things, set participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as a goal.
“It’s an exciting challenge coming back from a very low level,” Lotta says in the press release of her new team, referring to the birth of her son Olavi and the recovery afterwards. “Women’s cycling is so exciting at the moment and I would love to be part of that again. Things are changing so fast and I want to be part of that change too. Races like Paris-Roubaix would be a dream to ride and hopefully I will be ready to do that already next year, if not in 2024.”
And Lotta doesn’t return to the peloton just to ride along. “Of course, I am very ambitious for this new start to succeed and I have Paris on my mind because it’s such a great, flat course, but I also always know that for Olavi it doesn’t matter whether I come last or first. I am a different person because my son is always number one in my life. Still, I would love to be first, or at least help the team achieve their goals. AG Insurance-NXTG is a talented group and I can’t wait to meet them all, and to be reunited with Ashleigh.”
AK Sportpromotions welcomes Lotta
The announcement that Lotta is returning to the peloton at AG Insurance – NXTG comes together with the announcement that she has joined AK Sportpromotions. Owner Aschwin Kruders: “Lotta came to me with the ambition to return to competition and to pursue new successes. We wanted to find a suitable team and I am convinced that we have succeeded. This is a great start to our collaboration and a good start for hopefully a successful return. I wish Lotta and AG Insurance – NXTG a lot of success!”

Lotta Henttala terug in het peloton met AG Insurance – NXTG
Na een afwezigheid van zo’n anderhalf jaar keert de Finse wielrenster Lotta Henttala – Lepistö in 2023 terug in het peloton. De voormalig winnares van onder meer Gent-Wevelgem gaat rijden voor AG Insurance – NXTG, nadat ze in januari van dit jaar beviel van een zoon. Henttala heeft zich onlangs aangesloten bij AK Sportpromotions en we zijn blij om haar management te mogen verzorgen. De 33-jarige renster heeft onder meer deelname aan de Olympische Spelen van 2024 in Parijs als een doel gesteld.
“Het is een spannende uitdaging om terug te komen van een heel laag niveau”, vertelt Lotta, verwijzend naar de bevalling van haar zoon Olavi en het herstel daarna. “Het vrouwenwielrennen is zo gaaf op het moment en ik zou daar graag weer deel van uitmaken. De dingen veranderen zo snel en ik wil ook deel uitmaken van die verandering. Wedstrijden als Parijs-Roubaix zouden een droom zijn om te rijden en hopelijk ben ik daar volgend jaar, zo niet in 2024, klaar voor.”
En Lotta keert niet terug in het peloton om alleen maar mee te rijden. “Natuurlijk ben ik erg ambitieus om deze nieuwe start te laten slagen en ik heb Parijs in mijn gedachten omdat het zo’n geweldig, vlak parcours is, maar ik weet ook altijd dat het voor Olavi niet uitmaakt of ik als laatste of als eerste aankom. Ik ben een ander persoon omdat mijn zoon altijd nummer één in mijn leven is. Toch zou ik graag winnen, of in ieder geval het team helpen hun doelen te bereiken. AG Insurance – NXTG is een getalenteerde groep en ik kan niet wachten om ze allemaal te ontmoeten en herenigd te worden met Ashleigh.”
AK Sportpromotions verwelkomt Lotta
De aankondiging dat Lotta terugkeert in het peloton bij AG Insurance – NXTG is ook direct de aankondiging dat ze zich heeft aangesloten bij AK Sportpromotions. Eigenaar Aschwin Kruders: “Lotta meldde zich bij me met de ambitie om weer terug te keren in wedstrijdverband en om nieuwe successen na te streven. Daar wilden we graag een passend team bij vinden en ik ben ervan overtuigd dat dat gelukt is. Dit is een mooie start van onze samenwerking en goed begin voor hopelijk een succesvolle terugkeer. Ik wens Lotta en AG Insurance – NXTG heel veel succes toe!”
